Audra is an artist who stands out because of her range and variety of her talent as a performer and song writer. Record-breaking six times recipient of her Tony Awards, two Grammy Awards as well as one Emmy Award she received in the year 2015 by Barack Obama. Apart from performing in theater, McDonald also has an impressive career as an internationally acclaimed recording and concert artist. McDonald was raised within Fresno California by her musical parents. She studied classical music at the Juilliard School, New York. In 1994, just a few years after her Juilliard School, she won the Tony Award for "Best Performance by a Leading Actress in the Musical" for her performance in Carousel. In the four following years, she was awarded two additional Tony Awards as a featured actor on Terrence Mcnally's Broadway debuts Master Class (1996) and Ragtime (1998). The total number of Tony Awards is unprecedented at 3 before the age of thirty. She won her fourth Tony by starring as a lead in A Raisin in the Sun alongside Sean Diddy Combs. Then in 2013, she brought home her 5th Tony in addition to her first in the leading actress category. In 2014, the Tony Awards most-decorated performer in 2014 was Billie Holiday, who she performed as the title character in Lady Day At Emerson's Bar & Grill. It is identical to the role she performed in her 2017 West End London debut for which she was named for the Olivier Award. Not only did she set the record for most wins in a competitive category for an actor, she became the first person ever to win awards for all four categories of acting. McDonald's theater credits also include The Secret Garden (1993) Marie Christine (99) Henry IV (2007) 110 in the Shade (2008) Twelfth (2009), which was her Public Theater Shakespeare in the Park premiere, which was the first time she performed in Shuffle Along or The Making of the Musical sensation of 1921 & All That Followed (2017) Frankie & Johnny in Clair de Lune (2018) and Ohio State Murders 2023. McDonald made her TV debut with the award-winning Peabody Award-winning CBS show Having Our Say - The Delany Sisters' First Hundred years. Her next role was as a recurring actor on NBC's Law & Order Special Victims Unit where she appeared with Kathy Bates and Victor Garber. Following her debut Emmy nomination for her role in the HBO film version of the Pulitzer Prize winning play Wit, directed by Mike Nichols and starring Emma Thompson McDonald returned on television network in 2003 with the drama about politics Mister Sterling, produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. and starring Josh Brolin. Then, in the year 2006, she joined WB's The Bedford Diaries. The next year, she appeared as an actor in NBC's Kidnapped. McDonald received a fourth Emmy for her performance as Lady Day in Emerson's Bar & Grill, which aired on HBO in 2016. The Bite was a six episode drama about pandemics produced through Spectrum Originals in collaboration with CBS Studios. In 2009, she portrayed U.S. Attorney Liz Lawrence on CBS's legal drama The Good Wife. In the year 2018, McDonald took on the role of Liz Reddick as a regular in Paramount+'s The Good Fight. She was awarded three Critics Choice Award nods for her performance. The actress is currently a guest on Julian Fellowes' historical thriller The Gilded Age on HBO.
